Hack Slack Integrations with email to channel
Here's the problem I had. I want to encourage people to post their best practices and share tips on the Help Center. I knew that if I could link up a slack integration to the help center that it would show people that if they post on Help Center, there message would still be shared in slack, our tool of choice. However, the help center doesn't have a default slack integration for when posts come in.
It does have these nifty 'follow' buttons though. These send email updates about posts to that email. So I created new slack integrations which allows you to pipe an email to a slack channel. I then made these out as 'end-user' accounts in our help desk. I assumed the identity of these accounts and followed the community topics that we have.
Now, whenever a post is made in the Community forums, a slack message is posted to #best-practices. If it's in the suggestions for IT, a message is sent to #andela-it
