How to check battery charge cycles on a Mac

LOCATE SYSTEM INFORMATION

  • Click on the  on the top left of your screen.
  • Hold the alt (option) key
  • About this Mac becomes System Information.

OR

  • Use Spotlight search to locate System information (⌘+spacebar).

FIND THE CHARGE CYCLE COUNT

Within the System Information window under the hardware tab.

  • Locate Power.
  • You might have to expand the category on the left to see this selection.
  • Select Power, on the right, details of the category is listed.
  • Under Battery Information, find the subheading Health Information:
  • You will see charge cycle listed, as a figure.

    I had to look up what this number represents...still not clear however, of interest is that apple support states that the maximum cycle count for a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) is 1000. On my Andela owned MacBook I am close to half of that figure. Clearly, by the time I am graduating from Andela, that number will have gotten to the maximum; which will leave me with a personally owned mac with battery issues...not to mention all the other hardware components that will have reached their EOL.

    The default keyboard shortcut to launch Spotlight is ⌘+space
