How to check battery charge cycles on a Mac
LOCATE SYSTEM INFORMATION
- Click on the on the top left of your screen.
- Hold the alt (option) key
- About this Mac becomes System Information.
OR
- Use Spotlight search to locate System information (⌘+spacebar).
FIND THE CHARGE CYCLE COUNT
Within the System Information window under the hardware tab.
- Locate Power.
- You might have to expand the category on the left to see this selection.
- Select Power, on the right, details of the category is listed.
- Under Battery Information, find the subheading Health Information:
- You will see charge cycle listed, as a figure.

I had to look up what this number represents...still not clear however, of interest is that apple support states that the maximum cycle count for a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) is 1000. On my Andela owned MacBook I am close to half of that figure. Clearly, by the time I am graduating from Andela, that number will have gotten to the maximum; which will leave me with a personally owned mac with battery issues...not to mention all the other hardware components that will have reached their EOL.
